Okay, um, welcome everybody to the 12th episode of CGCast.
Today is the 31st of December.
Yes, it's New Year's Eve.
147 AM.
Late night show. It's going to be the last show for the
year 2005.
How cool is that?
Anyways, I have Franklyn D'Souza.
D'Souza.
D'Souza.
Something with me.
Come on.
I'm sorry.
What's your name?
How do you say that?
Franklyn D'Souza.
And I hope to have Demetrius Charles and I want to say Merry
Christmas and Happy Holidays and Happy New Year and all
that good stuff.
If you guys want to wish the guy happy holidays or you're
going to be there.
Quiet.
Yeah, I just want to wish everyone a happy holidays and a
prosperous year.
You know, damn anything.
Sorry.
Yeah, just to note, Demetrius is like some guy I found under
a bridge and he likes to ramble a lot.
about some girl, Maya, that rejected him, something like
that.
I don't know.
I don't understand what...
I don't understand what he's saying.
We don't understand either.
All right.
Anyway, on to this topic.
We're going to look at the year in review and what happened
in 2005.
Obviously, something very special happened in 2005.
DigiCat was created.
Anyway, on a dude note, a lot of interesting things
happened in 2005,
such an autodesk buying Alias
that made a lot of heartbreak for some people.
Right, Demetrius?
Some people predict time.
Yeah.
How do you feel about it, Demetrius,
autodesk buying area?
I'm very disappointed by the transaction,
but I'm sure that, as always,
probably it's all, sir.
Disappointed with the transaction,
but I'm sure it's all, yes, as always, sir.
Well, yeah, I just don't care.
No cost to take, bro.
Yeah.
Yeah, very good. Me, I honestly don't care. As long as I
get good programs like Math and
Maya combined, it would be excellent. But obviously that's
not going to happen. What's
really going to happen is Autodesk. Continuing Maya and
Math and Maths will be copied, dumped
out for games and Maya will be up.
I feel this for all of you.
I think that's the important thing. I mean, they make
mention of integrating workflow
and all that kind of stuff.
So as long as they continue to distribute products out,
because a lot of products, I think, really,
very good tech, both companies,
well, both products, MaxApp and mine.
Then probably just they won't make a program with this app.
That would allow for a deal, but they're taking it.
No, I highly doubt it also.
And the Max Rewipe, which was supposed to be done long ago,
is never going to happen.
Anyway, what else happened this year?
about macromia.
If you use a seizure,
why shouldn't Dreamweaver,
I don't know,
if they're going to kill
Blackburn Dreamweaver.
I think they will.
I think they will.
That's a good thing.
I mean, Adobe is,
I think they're excellent.
I think they will develop the products
in a really positive way.
I mean,
Cypress,
Dreamweaver,
I think Adobe will acquire that product
and look to develop that product.
I think it would be a really positive thing.
I kinda wish they die, Adobe did, but Macromedia should
stay separate.
I have a feeling Adobe is going to butcher Providius
products.
What could you imagine if Adobe bought Autolesk?
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Why would you say that?
I mean, Adobe trained Macromedia.
Why would you say that?
Because I don't like the UI in Photoshop.
It's very...
I don't like it.
I like the UI more than that when you need a product like
Dreamweaver and Flash.
Yeah, but Adobe spends a lot of time developing your work,
and it's really user-friendly.
It's easy to track.
They haven't made major updates to Photoshop in a long time
.
What updates can you possibly think of that would be
required?
Exactly. It's a well-rounded patch.
Yeah. I mean, like, if you're still using Photoshop, you're
not missing out on much.
I've got Photoshop CS2 out there.
I use Photoshop that realm, and I have Photoshop CS2 at
school,
and there's not much I listen.
So they haven't really upgraded much.
More of a better version.
You can say the same for any 3D applications.
I mean, look at this thing.
But look at Next.
Next has added cloth, hair, soft mapping, a lot of stuff,
and there was some big updates compared to what Photoshop
has done.
I don't know.
I'm sure they've had updates and stuff, but it's not things
that like, immediately pop up that seem very interesting.
So you're saying that it would be better if they released
some of these new programs as updates rather than like a
whole new application?
Exactly. It's just charging people for a phone upgrade.
Guess it's business though.
People are seeing mighty products, so it's like...
Sirs, what else happened this year? There's also one of the
bullets.
I haven't seen King Kong. Maybe you should ask.
movies are too expensive to see here
like almost $20 to see a freaking movie here
but I get $15
is that it?
uh, Swedish?
Switzerland
yeah, today
and I'm moving English is even harder
how serious is it though?
what?
oh, no, yeah
a lot of the time it's dubbed in French
hmm
okay then
ah
have you seen it?
yeah, watched it recently
it's really nice
yeah
yeah
3D was wild
I mean it has a
very immersive
yeah it was seamless
I just love the way
the 3D models
interacted with
human characters
except school
they made it
flash the original
King Kong
and that was
pretty funny
yeah
well if you watch
the developer diaries
of Peter Jackson
you see where
one of the guys
who does a cameo
in a film
he brings the
original puppet
that was used in the movie
and you can really see
the dramatic contrast
between how the puppet
moves and
how
the 3D model is so much more articulated
in its movement and stuff like that.
We've been doing a lot of
brand new kind of
good to your Kong is King
just to kind of
what Frank was talking about.
Like a legendary
stick it for
it's pretty cool. I actually checked out
it yesterday. It was very inspiring.
Yeah, if you're interested in
visual effects and stuff like that, I
highly recommend checking out his
production diary. It just
talks about the small little things that go
on set and like stuff
it's just you know what goes behind
each effect shots of
I've seen some of those when they were still
one minute. I will find the movie
scene sort of thing. Yeah that was cool
What happened in 2005
it was Final Fantasy
Admin Children. That was cool
It's cool. Yeah it was cool
That's pretty good
That's all with your talk
with Robert. Yeah I
He didn't like it. He said it was just
one odd fight scene, which it was.
But it was a pretty...
How long did they
spend on the entire production of that
particular film? I don't know, a few years?
It was
a few guys, like 17 guys
working on it. It wasn't much.
Impressive for such a small team.
Very cool. I'm personally
not a fan of fantasy film and such.
I don't really play the PD games too much, but I thought
the video, maybe rather, was pretty cool.
Yeah, I loved it. I loved the movie. It was very cool.
Deep was just something you just shut your mind off and you
just watch and you enjoy the pretty graphics.
So, what else in 2005? Anybody here for the Xbox 360?
No, not yet.
That's not your RC. I've seen it in stores. They've got
this demo where you can play a full duty.
I thought that was amazing. I didn't, I personally didn't
play it, but just let it seem like a PC version.
I'm not really that impressed.
Like, the Xbox 60s
is not something
I'd run out and buy.
But I have to say,
I have to say,
I saw Project Gotham Racing
and that looks wow.
I mean,
I'll probably,
if I had money to throw away,
I would probably ditch
just to look at
Project Gotham Racing.
Well, ditch the in-game stuff
or the previous?
Yeah, in-game stuff.
And I could buy him
a third Call of Duty.
Controlling,
I hate that.
The story speaks.
It's beautiful.
feel so bad
using those two
so you actually
play Call of Duty
on Xbox 360
yeah it's alright
it's not like a PC game
you can
not like
current generation
PC game
oh
well that's why
I'm not trolling it
with a bitch
yeah I can imagine
it's a first person shooter
yeah
getting shot
like crazy
and taking
one hour to aim
but
yeah
I mean
they're gonna have
a lot of
they're gonna have
to fight really hard
they have to get
better games
more RPGs
the games right now they have nothing really said play me
well yeah you have to think about it i
mean call of duty just came out on the pc and then they
ported it to xbox 360 so i'm not thinking
they had i'm thinking they didn't have a lot of time to you
know work with the sdk itself
yeah but also they're releasing games like need for speed
uh most wanted and for they had it for
xbox one and xbox 360 and like i was saying need for speed
most wanted on my friend's xbox the
the other day. Sure, it looked ugly,
but after a while, you start
caring about the graphics and we're just having fun
with the game. That's the gameplay, after all.
Yeah, I mean, at first,
the first five minutes, God, this is God,
I'll be underground
too, which better my PC, but
after a while, we're playing multiplayer and
you just stop caring about the graphics.
So that's why I think
the Revolution probably have a chance in
focusing on gameplay. After a while,
you just stop caring about graphics.
Most of my favorite games are some like earlier consoles
like the Super Nintendo and the N64.
I can't remember for graphics these days.
But to me, first, I just heard older generation consoles.
Actually, my favorite games are Fallout, Fallout 2, Icewind
Dale, Elder Escape, and Escape Tournament.
Those are all 2D games.
They're not great for graphics because they're rewards.
Yeah, I know what you mean.
I mean you guys played, sorry, The Legend of Zelda:
Wikipedia of Clash.
Yeah, but that was when they came out with the graphics for
anything, when they came out.
That was my, that was probably my favorite game for the
Nintendo 64, I think.
Even now, I still like it.
And I've also been a fan of Shikari, so we really have
great appreciation.
That was probably the best game.
I think the Joy's map was more fun.
Was shorter and more fun.
I've never read a film.
I think it's pretty cool that you get the bunny hat.
It changes the look for you for the bunny hat or anything.
The bunny mask.
So I only have to complete like sets to house?
Yeah, but you can go back in time.
You can fast forward time.
You can slow down time.
Anyways, back on topic.
Better back in.
What happened in 2006?
That was, wasn't it?
Yes, 2005.
2005, I'm jumping ahead.
What happened in 2005?
Do you guys have anything?
Maybe like that.
I heard something about
Render coming out for Maya.
I didn't know too much about it, but I think that was a
really cool thing.
I just don't have it, but
I hear Render is a pretty cool
renderer system. That should be a good high.
Okay, Michael.
Irony, but if you're a Maya user,
which you should be.
Please do not
impose your beliefs on others.
It's considered to be
very rude.
Okay, I'm very sorry.
as a dick user
early.
Alright,
anything else
or anything
in 2005?
Um,
yeah,
I mean,
what's happened with
I don't know too much about
but I hear that was
a big, big bit of the year
other than
I'm conned.
Sorry.
I haven't seen that movie.
I can't watch
movement
in a sec.
If I had to,
I'd watch every movie
that came out.
You see,
I have to
I have to
to my brother's
by him on BDD
to see them.
That's pretty sad.
Actually,
They're coming out on DVD fast, like I just saw Batman
League two days ago.
No, three days ago.
That's pretty cool, Batman League.
I'm still not very.
Pretty soon.
I'm a Batman fan as well, but I've never seen Batman.
Batman is actually a portable toy.
That's the thing I didn't think.
I'll direct you to a ghost.
I thought it had been a very great.
Oh, no.
This will be kind of an expert in my way.
Imagine that.
Especially when you're healthy.
I think I'm too old.
Yeah.
Like it's like...
Grover?
Can you type up?
Alright, very fast.
I'm not ready.
You don't have to be at home.
So I just learned about SCAC.
SCAC is better than Popup.
They have the Bluetooth, QI, and Cache Sync.
We have virtual, eCache,
and especially if you're a virtual courier, there's a weird
autoclash you could tell you're going to fuck up.
That's how they know it's good.
That's how they know it's good.
Yeah, it's all about it.
Before we wrap it up, before we wrap up,
let's set the remote.
See you later.
Bye.
Well, yeah, it's good.
He captured the structure.
Enter.
I'm really dead.
I'm far away from home.
I'm a lot of things.
I'm back.
I have a video camera and that's all I'm going to do for
you.
Thank you to my even thinking frankly.
Yeah, I just thought about it.
It's very it's very cool model so far.
Doesn't seem to be much weathering or anything like as far
as things because of M2C brush
or something more of a texture on the surface.
But yeah, I think each hard to predict.
Yeah, well, I'll see a realist.
Yeah, yeah, I'll do it right now.
go up in order
second one
the huddle
yeah
again by Juha
yeah
my memory
in my head
pretty good model
he has a potential
parking on the thumb
and he said he was
having problems
with nails
yeah
it looked a bit odd
yeah I think he should
just make the nails
separate and just
smush after
that's what I do
but I could be wrong
but it's a pretty nice
overall
I don't know why
he has one finger bent
yeah
yeah
just a little
I think he should
Just leave all the bending when you're spreading it.
I mean that, because you told me what the hard edges were.
You know the top of the hat is the bones.
There's a bit of a thought in the making of that.
They're a bit on the side of the bed, but it's not an
immediate foreground.
It's not the side.
Yeah, definitely.
Okay, dude.
Kicks, mail.
You need forms.
Get a loop before you import it.
The head made of hat and all in.
Finish.
The finish airs.
I hope that people will have this movie and you are working
on it.
Yeah.
Then what's coming?
Yeah.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
What?
I don't think it's too bad.
I'm not sure.
I should really work on it.
That would be a good test, but it's a big guy.
Yeah.
I always use our friends in.
I mean, it's particular.
He said he's been using reference images.
And that takes care of half the work,
which is always key.
That's probably easier to find.
I actually prefer
drawn reference images
where you have lines and everything
easier to model from.
As opposed to...
Yeah, but that's just me.
I could be wrong.
It's your own, I suppose.
It sucks.
Yeah, it was.
Okay, let's move on to the worm.
That's kind of my film.
I can't really comment on it.
well is there
anything else
you personally
do not like
it was kind of
a rush job
the landing
well the head
is supposed to be
a shell
and I need
to build the
interior of the
mouth
I'm not really
going to build
much of it
it's just going
to be jumping
out of the
ground
and back
of the
ground
and it's
going to be
very motion
blurred
and stuff
so I don't
spend so much
time on it
because I have
the rest of the
show going
through it
yeah I actually
wanted to ask you
because you
posted two models
from your
short, right? Anyway, yeah, what's
with the whole color scheme? What's it supposed to be?
And the topic
is contrast, so
I have to edit the color, the characters,
the environment, the story,
everything involved in contrast,
so that's why I'm going for that funky theme.
And I always try, I want to try
something different, something cartoony,
but still, with a little touch.
Yeah, that explains it.
That's why I heard you.
Yeah, I think it's cool.
I'm just wondering,
Yes, perhaps alternate texture from the outside, seems a
little bit.
I mean, in the second picture, it's a bit dark, but in the
first picture,
perhaps, I mean, is it going to have a tone?
Well, when it comes to a tone, I started making the tone,
but I didn't texture it, so I didn't bother rendering it.
But as I said, the warmers are going to be jumping out,
going to eat another monster, and saving this little blue
guy.
And then at the end, I don't want to spoil the ending,
but the monster is going to be moving very fast,
so don't make what you want.
Now, when it's actually in the short bin,
is it going to be as glossy as it is, as low as they're
very strong?
I'll probably call it on a bit.
What do you guys think about the blue guy?
Well, he does have a bit of a...
Yes, but what happened to the...
It's not finished.
It's like a gouge.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, I think that's the best thing,
and the island's admirable and everything,
but my teacher gave me very little time to work on them.
It's still working.
When I get back home, I'll probably work on some more.
I don't have time to do it yet, right?
Yeah, so I'll get it.
That was awkward.
Well, it's really good what it is.
It's really early in the production so far,
so we'll have to see where it develops more.
All right.
The next one, oh, the sniper.
Yeah, I just posted up something just before we start.
So, Beak.
Because, I don't know, what's the purpose?
Yeah, well, recently, like over the weekend,
I downloaded a copy of Dark Basic Professional,
which is sort of engine that lets you make games by
yourself.
And I just want to play around with a few of its features.
So I made a small, low-poly tank
so I can make a small game and just, you know, test its
features.
Well, I can tell you that the texture is very friendly.
and we already have that, the same dirty metal.
It's pretty early and it's very well-hawly.
That's true.
Well, it's mainly just for texture practice, so.
I haven't really worked with 512 by 512 texture very much,
so I'm trying to incorporate it into my work.
Okay.
There's nothing bad.
The texture's looking all right.
It looks a bit flat, but it's very, yeah, the flat looks
flat.
Are you looking for map or normal maps?
Yeah, I'm going to work on a map after I'm done.
And a specular map, maybe.
Okay.
And will the tanks be animated?
Actually, I'm planning on having antennas that are going to
shake.
So that part might be animated.
What about shreds?
No, shreds will be stationary.
So you're going to make it look like an animated texture
map?
Yeah, there's an Oscar UVW.
so I'm gonna see if I can program a scrolling UVWR
I'll just have an animated texture for that
no, bleep, my bad
remember once, don't forget to giggle
same, you're a proper
I'll keep it updated
well, that's all the whoops we have for now
I feel that it won't finish to work
you guys wanna comment it?
finish work?
yeah, but he, he technically wanted to talk about it
should we?
why not?
why not?
alright, see you in the stock
see ya
That's not a street call.
This thing's like a building in the background of the thing
.
It looks kind of good.
But the building in the foreground looks very blah.
It's very creamed and plain and empty.
It needs to be bought.
It's made of bricks.
Come on, lie.
It's about wearing his favorite in front.
And a lot of scenery and things.
I know it makes it better.
I know you didn't want it.
What?
It's his firework section, bitch.
What?
No, no.
None of the wood sections in the final work.
Say, what works?
Oh, really? You made a post?
Any sign of how it's argued?
Uh-uh.
We have a deep slide.
We have a tiny post.
Something by Demetrius.
Oh, wow.
Vicar.
Fire.
It's in the wood sections.
Sorry.
The shows keep coming into active.
Imagine if you guys signed up on the forum
and we could just talk about your wood slides
if you have extremely good timing like Demetrius.
The optical course looks interesting.
Is it a frat fight or what?
Um, well we actually go into how it came about.
Me and Franklyn, let's go into the little things where we
...
Seek.
Start.
Speak.
We make a scene based off that scenario.
This came about, I thought, let's put a character in the
laptop or something.
But, up there, we've seen it.
A few weeks ago, we were on the hobbit site.
I had the big two tickets.
It seems it did.
So you have all the screw and hinges and everything set up.
Our model is really nice, impressive.
Very impressive.
What does he miss to render it though?
Yeah, but my... I don't know anything about my renderer,
switch renderer.
Uh, that's not right.
Okay. UGI?
Uh...
Looks very good, looks well rendered.
Compliationally, but overall, one flight, the rest is just
kind of in time.
So, will you be texturing?
I will.
Let's get a little...
Get a little animation.
Just kind of see how it works out.
That's a little better.
I don't do much about texturing,
so I might have to thank you to help me.
Straight.
Cool.
Well, if you need anything, I'll be there.
Yeah, I mean, initially,
I was hoping it would be a joint project.
I'll be at it.
So, what a buck.
Again, it is Maya.
It's not Max.
It's not that other program you guys stress on,
yeah feel free to contribute
like you'd like to
yeah maybe some other
CG cast can help you
contribute
yeah more than
more than
welcome
we don't know if maybe
in the future we have a
CG cast
sure
it would
but then there's
this issue with
okay I use my
swan of a sea hashel
right
yeah
no because
we just have to set up
anything
and max can import
max from 7 off
you can import
all
EJ files
so
yeah
sharp tooth
yeah
yeah
anyway so
I guess that's all
for today
a good show
even though it was
kind of a
last minute thing
we were going to
kick out Demetrius
because
just for fun
because we
yeah
we don't like the
Maya life
no I'm just kidding
we love Maya people
we don't discriminate
what software we use
although I'm a
Jamaican
anyways it's like
2.30am here
and I think
I should go to bed
And hopefully I'll be able to find something interesting to
do.
Maybe an evening night.
Or an hour boring one like every year.
What do you guys think of New Year's Eve?
Me personally, I'm just going to be chilling out.
I don't think I'm going to do too much.
It's tomorrow night, isn't it?
Yeah.
Or actually, tonight.
For us, tonight.
I'm just going to chill out a lot.
Things are online.
I think I don't really do too much New Year's Eve.
Two years ago, I'd probably go out and hang around with
friends.
But I think I'm going to stay here.
This particular one.
You're Franklyn?
Yeah, I'm going to do the same.
Maybe call family back home.
Yes.
If I don't find anything to do tonight,
I'm no near my friend.
I'll probably be on the run with you guys.
We took one through the countdown as well.
What's the countdown on?
Well, yeah.
I need to get the new year before you and each of us.
I'll get it one hour before Demetrius.
Yeah, and how is it?
Good stuff.
Yeah, it's 2.30 here.
contact here so
yeah we both
beat you back
there now
yeah well
thanks
thanks for being

Alright, I probably won't be doing anything
after this
to pick up the 12-pack
or send it out as a team year.
Yes, yes, I probably will do that.
I'll do it tomorrow morning when I wake up.
I need to peace out and say bye-bye, everybody.
Good night.
Okay.
Arch, are you going to edit?
I'm still recording at first.
Oh, wait.
Well, seriously, you need to add that bit out. Just that
small little bit.
Yeah, some with me as well when I was sputtering it up and
out.
You need to increase his volume more.
And these other parts, I mean, could you hear me? Was there
anything else?
Well, there were parts that went out.
Parts?
A while.
Hey, why are we recording?
Uh, welcome to CJCast December 30th, 2005.
Yeah, this was pretty slow.
Yeah.
It was a bit, I mean, the only ones I heard, I think it was
five.
bye
yeah we kind of
just made everything up
yeah
bye
yes
