Are you talking? Alright, welcome everybody to the 16th
episode of CGCast.
Today I have with me Simon Roth and Matt Ellis.
Well, I know we haven't had a show in a long, long, long
time.
Well, I've been busy. I had school, my evaluations.
I passed, but there was a lot of drama involved and, you
know, school.
And school is before CGCast.
Anyways.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Anyways, today Simon will talk to us about Outsourcer.com.
Simon, what is Outsourcer?
Right.
Outsourcer.com is a site I started up for freelance 3D
people,
but then it kind of just spread out to basically any artist
to just put up their work in their demo reel and their CV
online
and just promote themselves basically for free
because there's not enough free stuff on the net.
What motivated you to do this?
I wanted work.
That's a pretty good reason, you know.
Well, I don't know, because like,
let's go for my portfolio.
Yeah, I need to practice PHP
and like PHP pre-hypertext protocol.
And that's it.
Yeah, that's a beer.
Don't forget the people that are using it.
You did it for the people.
Oh, yeah, and to make money.
Has it been successful?
Have people been finding jobs?
Yeah, I got emailed by two guys the other day.
At the moment, yeah, because there's about four jobs
that have been posted in the last week.
I actually personally got two jobs off already.
Oh.
Because I'm top of the list because I made it.
I need a job, so if you can find me a job
or if anybody's listening wants to give me a little job
because I have to pay for my train ticket and it's very
expensive.
Yeah, I'm pretty good at making coffee too.
Well, I can't do anything.
I just sit and look pretty and if you pay me for that, that
'd be awesome.
Anyways, so what are the future plans for Outsourcer?
All right, well, first of all, I'm going to move it on to
like a feedback.
I'm going to move it on to a custom server
so we can have 300 gig of
People's' demo reels
and not be like stuck by my
web hosting
how much does your web hosting give you right now anyways
if I told you you'd laugh
it's actually
only about 30 gigabytes
which means that if everyone who was
actually on the site uploaded the 100
limit they had
it would crash the site but
luckily no one actually does any work
so
soon enough
soon enough
yeah
baby steps man
baby steps
by the time people
are on it
I'm going to be
getting so much
off the advertising
on site
that you know
I just
don't buy more
bandwidth
damn
what advertisement
do you have
google ads or what
yeah google ads
I make about
20 cents a day
at the moment
and I'm raking it in
yeah
I lost my google ads
they banned me
for no reason
they banned my other site
I don't get that
but
I don't know why
did you sign up
for a new account
or what
yeah I had to
oh okay
I'll do that then
I mean there could be
two people
named Olivier
Archer living in
Switzerland
you think they
checked that
then they do
to your email
well I have
lots of emails
so
yes that's why
but they also need
your home address
to send you the checks
yeah they didn't
check up on it
they haven't sent
many checks yet
they're still freaking out
build it up over
30 years
yeah
I got, after I got banned, I got a letter from Google to
confirm, like a letter in the mail from Google to confirm
that I joined, that I was going to receive a check soon.
But I didn't.
How did you get banned?
I don't know.
They invalidation and I don't know why.
You sat there clicking, didn't you?
No, I didn't.
That's the thing.
I told my sister that I make money if she clicks on the ad
on my site.
And I just logged on to Google and whatever and checked my
thing.
and I had 40,000 clicks.
Oh.
And then he's like, what?
No.
Yeah, fudge.
And basically, Google just emailed me
and said that all those ones for that day
could be discounted, so.
Ah, but they did it for the day.
That's not fair.
They took away my $60.
I made $60 in like two months,
and then all gone.
All that work.
Yeah.
Anyways.
Maybe I can get some new Google ads soon.
I have some other podcast projects coming up,
so they'll be a bit more mainstream,
so maybe I can pay for my train tickets.
Anyways, as you were saying, we went off topic for a while.
What's the future for Outsourcer?
At the moment, there's not many people posting jobs on it,
so I've been in negotiations with a few large,
I'd call them agencies,
that are going to basically fund me
to put things into the site for them,
but also for the people using it.
So there'll be ways of people who've had jobs done by the
artists
to actually leave them testimonials and stuff like that.
I'm going to get a rating sorted out soon
because people are cheating on it at the moment.
It's like the CG talk one.
If you rate someone with not enough stars,
or you give them a one-star rating, it destroys their
average.
So it's kind of like a MySpace for CG jobs.
Yeah.
I can't wait till the emos come on.
Oh my god, my 3D work sucks, but I still need a job.
I'm supposed to sit on my wrist and put pictures of it on S
alsa.com.
I'm supposed to sit on my polygons.
Yeah.
Well, that's cool.
Anything else you'd like to say?
I can't really remember anything.
Basically, a lot of people complained about the interface,
but then they complained about it.
Yeah, it does.
A lot of people complained about it before,
And then they like the new one, so I can't win with
everyone.
I'm thinking of having a horizontal navigation bar
instead of the vertical one,
because people don't like it at the moment, I'm not sure.
Yeah, I'm seeing horizontal being very popular right now.
Yeah, I might just add in more graphics.
It's a bit simple at the moment.
Yeah, keep it simple, but don't make it too flashy.
Yeah, I've never had anything like Flash or...
No, not Flash, Flashy, but, you know, Flashy, like bling,
bling, Flashy.
And I'm never going to have animated adverts on it.
I'm just sitting on CG Talk right now, and I'm seeing
animated adverts,
and they're just doing my head in.
One thing that I don't like about them, not that they're
bad or anything,
but I'll be sitting, like, watching TV, but it's in the
corner of my eye,
and I keep turning my head because I think there's
something going on
on my computer monitor, but it's just the Flash ads that
are going crazy.
Yeah, it's all right, though.
Anyways.
That goes on.
Hey, we started the chat.
Well, I started this chat.
It's at chat.cgcast.com.
And feel free to join.
Right now, there is, well, this is not live.
So later on when you hear the show, feel free to join the
chat.
Right now, we have 55 registered users.
55.
Yeah, that's a lot of people.
But mostly, I'm here during my free time.
So is Simon.
And from now on, Matt will be in here.
Now that I know what it is.
He'll be here.
Leigh, Leigh, whatever.
I'm sorry, I never say her name properly.
Comes here from time to time.
Do you mean Leigh Van Der Byl?
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
I hope she doesn't kill me for saying her name wrong.
Anyway.
You can't help it.
You have a funny accent.
I don't have a funny...
Okay, we'll have a vote.
If I have a funny accent, send me an email.
No, wait.
What's my email?
alright it's
archer at cgcast.com
if you think my accent
is funny
tell me
sure
hey you guys
feel free to spam
hey you guys
you guys want
see Silas
no
yeah
hey you guys want
cgcast emails
like Simon
sure at cgcast
yeah go on
mad at cgcast
I already have
what
nine emails
I'm getting
yeah I have to get
one more
anyways
yeah so
come and join the chat
it's lots of fun
no one's in there
practically
yeah me too
but there's a time
zone issues
like Simon and I
we cannot
we
we're in Europe
so the Americans
are in different times
the people in the west
good times
the times are there now
by the way
well here it's
it's healthy
it's 12.28
midnight here
ah
it's past midnight
so
best time about
is about 8 o'clock
GMT
do you reckon
to be in the chat
uh
I have no idea what GMT is.
Greenwich Mean Time.
British Time.
Okay.
It's British Time.
Eight?
No, that's early.
I'll probably still be on the train during that time.
Like, at night?
Yeah, because I have no reason to come home
because the Olympics cancelled my TV shows.
I just stayed at school and worked.
Oh, dear.
You heard that the Olympics make you more productive.
Yeah.
Not me.
Why?
Because I just spent about eight hours watching them.
Man, I didn't do any work.
Oh, the curling, the Swiss curling.
Hockey, man, hockey.
Yeah, but this is coming from the person who's trying to be
unemployed.
No, but have you seen curling?
This is like the weirdest sport ever, and it's really mes
merizing.
You want to change a channel, but you can't.
It's so British.
It's just so nitpicky.
What?
The way that, oh, I don't know.
I just love the screaming.
The screaming.
It's like they're probably like 10 feet away,
but they're like yelling at each other with full force.
And nothing beats Swiss Germans screaming,
I hate Swiss German.
Someone's just logged into the chat and asked,
I thought this is where the fun was.
It is.
So any other topics of interest?
The collab battle.
Oh, you guys know that?
Tell us about it.
Oh, yes.
I can tell you about that.
We're partners in it.
We're doing toilet humor.
But it doesn't really look like toilet humor right now.
Yeah, we're just coming off focus.
How's that?
I'm doing a workshop right now.
I'm just going to do it for a few days and then get back
into it.
I'm just waiting for all Simon over there to start doing
some 3D modeling, you know?
Yeah, I have been busy.
Yeah, I will be more the next couple of days.
But anyone should go check it out.
It had a front page, so if you missed it, you're pretty
slow.
you just insulted
a lot of people
yeah that's the way I do it
remember it was
his cgtalk name is
99sproff you can send him
DMs oh I get enough of them
oh really yeah
not really I just
people sending me spelling corrections on my
website daily
spell checker man spell checker
spell checkers
for noobs real men use
spell takers.
If you want to join in the collab battle
go to the 3D
Steals Forum on CGTalk and
Exploration Challenge.
I don't know. Maybe
check it out. They did have a deadline for
last month but then other people wanted
to join and they were like, well, no deadline
I guess right now but I think
they're just pretty much doing it so
that we have somewhat of time to work
on it. They don't want people joining in
a week or two beforehand. I don't know.
I think it's just to keep some sort of
you know, rules going on with it,
but I don't know, I'm sure people could ask on this site.
Yeah, you can.
Spin up this area, by the way.
Oh, I'll whip it up.
Whip it up.
Hey, Expose 4, the deadline is coming up soon.
Anybody planning on entering?
I was thinking about my self-portrait,
but it's not good enough.
I might work on the blending of it or something.
I'm not sure.
But the deadline is the end of February, man.
They need to give us more time.
I need time, man.
Time.
Have you already
won those books?
Are you already
in one of those books?
You're in...
Yeah.
Just filling you in.
Expose 1.
All my friends say
was by pure luck.
I have friends
not very supportive.
I'm going to say
how many people
have submitted so far
for Expose 4.
It's loading.
I want to submit.
I have a few images
I want to submit.
But hopefully
I'll be able to render them
during my holidays.
Yeah, quite a few people have submitted stuff for Explosive
4 so far.
Hmm.
Hmm.
Some good stuff, too.
Very good stuff.
I'm going to check it out myself.
Yeah, you have to go to ballisticpublishing.com,
but you have to, like, sign up so you can see all the
entries.
Oh, okay.
So, yeah.
So, I'm going to try and enter.
Okay, awkward silence.
Next subject.
They're also selling some prints, like a book.
It comes with 12 prints from Linda Bergkvist.
I'm writing an essay on her at the moment.
from my art course
I'm comparing her to Rembrandt
I can't say much about it at the moment
in case I get done for cheating online
or something but
it should be a good read hopefully
I'm pretty sure your teachers listen to
CGCast
but I emailed
her about it and she said
she'd help if I wanted which is quite nice
of her considering how busy she is
really? ask her if she
wants to come on CGCast sometime
I'd love to have her on
When I finish my essay, she can come on and crit it online.
So Simon, you have shamed me with this essay.
I'm just kidding.
Up back and do 10 more.
There was a joke from Margaret Cho,
because she was one of the first Asians to become really
popular on TV and stuff
and have her own TV show.
And she said that this little Korean girl wrote a letter to
an editor
and saying that, from seeing Margaret Cho on TV,
she has brought me great shame.
Brought the Asians great shame.
And I thought that was really funny.
And Margaret Cho said, she was like, what the?
But anyways, we're going off topic.
Yeah, just a little.
So actually, there is one thing we should talk about,
which is quite interesting,
is considering we were talking about Mac screens earlier,
is the new screen technology that's coming out,
mixing CRT with the size of an LCD.
Have you heard about that?
No.
No.
Basically, you know, like a TFT is a liquid crystal,
so the colors aren't perfect,
and you'll never get the same kind of like colors
as you do on a CRT screen,
because of the way that the screen works.
But someone's figured out,
because you know you have the tube at the back
that fires electrons at each one of the pixels
to change the colors,
and it does that in like a big stroke,
So you get your hertz racing, like, because it keeps
refreshing the screen.
Well, basically, they thought if you had a tube for each
pixel,
you could have a screen the size of TFT, thin screen,
but with the quality of a CRT.
And I can't remember what they're called, but they're
coming out.
They could be out as early as, like, the beginning of this
year.
Sounds expensive, though.
It probably will be, because, like, the new HD screens that
are coming out are expensive.
I reckon it would be a worthwhile investment
All monitors are HD
Yeah
The monitor I have right now
If it falls on me it would probably kill me
So getting a flat one would be so bad
I just want a Cintiq
A Cintiq? That's expensive as hell
I just go in my boat
Just get a tablet PC
I have a tablet PC, it's exactly the same
Apart from, well it isn't
It does the job
It does the job
Even my Pocket PC, which I love so dearly.
Like, you can go to notes and you can, like, do doodles
with the stylus and it's fun.
Anyways, yeah, I have a...
I want to talk about something.
A Pocket PC versus a PSP.
Like, I really think a Pocket PC would be a better
investment
because it's touchscreen and it can do more than play games
and watch videos.
A PSP, that's all it does.
Like, a Pocket PC can check your email, you have your
agenda,
You can play games, you can surf the web.
Well, you can do those on a PSP, but not legally.
Yes, but there's a stylus and it's a touchscreen and that
makes all the difference.
Well, I just use my tablet PC, so...
Yeah, but a tablet PC.
A pocket PC fits in your pocket.
A tablet PC kind of fits in my pocket.
Oh, yeah, probably a really big pocket.
If I was kind of large.
What size pants do you wear, man?
but still
seriously
like
if I had a choice
I would get
well my pocket PC
is like a
generation old
like
but the new ones
from Dell
the Axim X5V
can play Quake 3
on that
I was just
reading that
sounded pretty interesting
yeah
like
who needs a PSP
you can play
Quake 2
just online now
did I show you that
no
it just loads up
in Java
and you can play it online
I was playing it
on a Linux PC.
Oh, cool.
Yeah, but going back to the pocket PC versus PSP,
I'm really thinking, saying that it's better
to get a pocket PC than a PSP.
Anybody agree with me?
I gotta say, having those mini movies being terrible
in terms of sales, really.
I don't know.
Who's going to be stupid enough to buy a movie
that you can only watch on a PSP?
That's a joke.
You can just rip your DVDs,
Put them on the SD and watch it on your Pocket PC.
You can do the same thing with a PSP.
No?
That's not illegal if you own your movies.
It's just difficult.
I'd go for Pocket PC then.
Also, to convert the movie is very easy.
You just go into Movie Maker, import the movie,
and then you export it.
It even has a thing for WMV Pocket PC,
and it converts it properly.
It's pretty cool.
Apparently Matt is breaking up and he can't hear us anymore
.
Who, Matt?
Oh, you're done.
Poor Matt.
Where's Matt?
Hello?
Hey, Ed.
Welcome back, Matt.
Did you get cut off by a snowdrift?
Are you using wireless or something?
You're still breaking up, man.
Hey, look.
Matt, come back.
No.
Oh.
Not on a high-speed connection.
Maybe I'd have to hold on.
Wait.
I think Matt's turning into a robot.
Yes.
well
the problem with Skype
are you downloading anything
by any chance
me
from Matt
well
silence is deadly
on the radio
I think we're gonna
edit this out
no
I can't bother
it's already
12.40
and I don't feel like
editing it
and I don't know
how to release it
I heard that
what
okay this is getting
embarrassing
anyway
let's go on
yeah
so you
the new Windows is
the new
Windows Vista is coming up
there it goes
yeah matt is back yep what do you guys think of new world
is vista what do i think of that yeah
i think it's trying to be something it's not what what what
is it trying not to be
what is it trying to be that it's not windows remember
windows 95 it was like square boxes
it was functional it wasn't pretty but it did what you had
to do with that actually in the time it
was pretty cool like if you were from windows 3 or if you
went from dos to windows 95 was like wow
it's that's why awesome oh it's amazing but that's not
gonna happen with this stuff and um
microsoft just can't make a stable release they they've
never done it so XP was pretty good
hello sorry um yeah but it was really stable what about the
whole open ports thing and um
All the worms that came through themselves.
The last one took down the internet in like a day.
Well, nothing is perfect, but for a while it was pretty
good.
It's just Microsoft are trying to be too user-friendly.
There's something about it, like too artsy.
I don't know.
I can't put my finger on it, but there's just something not
right with that.
I don't care.
People are always saying that the Mac OS, the UI is so much
better.
That's debatable.
I highly disagree.
It's very gray and blue.
Well, gray and blue, wow, beautiful.
Not really.
And I can Photoshop.
I want Photoshop to take the screen.
I don't want there to be like,
you can still see the desktop while you're doing Photoshop
because if you click wrong, you just go to Finder.
It's really annoying.
And yeah, I don't like Mac.
That is very annoying.
People are going to flame me for that.
I don't like the Mac OS.
I did see that cool post on, I don't know where it was the
other day,
but someone got one of the new Intel Macs running Windows,
Linux, and macOS,
which I thought was pretty cool.
Yeah, that's pretty cool.
And the only thing is that the Mac laptops are pretty.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind a laptop.
Yeah, but it being pretty doesn't make your work better or
help you work at all.
I know.
It's pure vanity.
That's one thing when I was in my web design course,
all these girls had the Macs, and I was like, so why'd you
pick it?
They're just like, oh, look at it.
And this was like, okay, and why'd you get it?
Look at it.
It's so cute.
It's like, oh, I hate that idea.
Reason for getting something like that.
Seriously, get a tablet PC.
Girls love it.
A tablet PC.
I think I'll probably get a laptop.
I have to buy a laptop for school next year, so.
That was the same as the car, so, you know.
Sorry.
go on probably get a dell xps you know the gamer laptops
from dell no do not get tell why okay
google the motherboard chronicles i think it's called guy
had a motherboard burnt out and um
he basically got it replaced seven times by dell so and
their customer support is a joke
literally i've never had a problem with dell maybe uh he
was doing something wrong
maybe he was
breaking them on purpose
just to get noticed
on the internet
no no
it was burning out
or something
you can look it up
maybe he had bad power
yeah
well they replaced it
like two times
or something
I don't know
anyway
google that
anyone who's listening
google it
it's a great story
he probably had
bad power in his house
I don't know
I can't remember
the story
or maybe he was
rubbing his feet
on the carpet
while wearing socks
and then opening
the laptop
and touching the motherboard
to get static
yeah you're not supposed
to lick that isler, you know?
It could be a lot of things,
but Dell as a company doesn't seem so bad.
I think the fact that they replaced it seven times
sounds good.
Yeah, true.
I mean, if it was a bad company,
they would just say,
ah, too bad, sorry.
No replacement.
I build everything now.
I can't be bothered with buying off.
No, but you can't really build a laptop.
You can.
It's pretty easy.
It's modular.
Really?
You just buy a generic case,
and all the bits are the same as you would a PC.
They're just harder to find.
I don't think I'll be building any laptops anytime soon.
I'm building my new workstation soon,
once I start my new job,
which is going to be my dual, dual processor.
Dual, dual? Isn't that hard?
Dual core.
Oh, okay.
Dual processor.
Nice.
I don't know if I should upgrade my workstation yet.
I'm still using AMD 2600XP.
I'm on the 3500.
It's okay.
Yeah, but my PC is not giving me any problems.
It's doing everything it needs to do.
The only thing that could use some upgrading is a video
card.
Yeah.
You could always upgrade.
That's the thing.
I just don't feel the need to upgrade.
It's not being slow.
You want to check out the new Box Apex 4 systems?
Oh, God.
Or is it Apex?
I think it's Apex 4 systems.
Have you seen them?
No, but I don't want to look at those computers
that I can't have.
It's depressing.
I need a car.
Yeah, I don't like to go window shopping.
It makes me sad.
Hey, but Box would always send me a computer for review.
A nice laptop would be nice.
I'll review it on CGCast.
But that will probably never happen.
I could show some hints.
Hint, hint.
If anybody from Box is listening,
I'd love to review one of your laptops.
I'll even do a video version too.
Yeah.
And no more weird stuff.
You could do it like an Apple Mac advert.
Like, don't want to...
Everything you've heard tonight was recorded on a box.
Ah, yes, I could...
Everything, yeah.
All the videos edited on a box.
Yeah.
With two X's.
So, yeah.
Remember, or Alienware.
If anybody from Alienware is listening, which I highly
doubt,
I would love to review a laptop that I could use for school
.
Because I'm poor.
good luck yeah i'm gonna need it oh have you seen their new
gamer systems though for alienware yeah
yeah right it's it's just the like things that they're
bringing out for games pcs now like
quad sli i can't see that actually speeding up anything
that's a bit overkill there's so many
like bottlenecks that you're gonna get no but like the the
frame rates they're already you can have
With dual SLI, you already have like 100 frames per second
on everything maxed.
You don't really see the point.
And you lose half the effects because things done in post-
processing can't work.
Some of the things like motion blur, there's problems with
that,
so it actually slows it down in the end.
Well, that's counterproductive.
And a lot of games don't support it.
It's only for the big budget games that have actually had
it brought in
in the last couple of months.
I don't see the point of going SLI.
If only you have money to burn.
And it's useless for CG, to be fair.
Well, hardly any software supports that, I think,
from my personal experience.
NVIDIA is making video cards.
It's going to start making video cards
with two processors on one chip,
not one board or one card.
It's kind of like SLI without two slots.
That would probably be really noisy.
Well, NVIDIA is always noisy.
like the first uh geforce 6s didn't they sound like vacuum clean
ers yeah i actually have one of them
here running my computer is nice and quiet talking of which
uh the new um rapture drives are out
they came out last month and i i was the only person on the
forums who got excited about it
but yeah to get excited about a hard drive yeah oh i knew
it was life
you get it you you pretty it's pretty sad when you get
excited about a hard drive simon
i know anyways tell us what's the special what got you
excited about the hard drive
well it's 150 gig but it's the um one of their 10 000 rpm
ones and it has a window in the side
so you can check out the slowest part of your pc as it
bottlenecks everything
you could see it in action but i was looking on price watch
uh skazzy hard drives are really cheap
now yeah but it's because it's kind of outdated isn't it oh
it's faster than your after i know
but 15 000 they they want one five zero zero zero zero revs
per second versus per minute that
you gotta take into account that like the raptor drives
again can go in like a small workstation
whereas if you've got a SCSI drive
you're talking about
a SCSI drive
you're talking about
like proper server calling and stuff.
No, but you can just get a card
for your computer.
The SCSI card.
Yeah, but it would be
really hot and noisy.
No.
Lies, lies.
You're working badly.
No, but still, it's SCSI.
SCSI's cool.
They are, but they're
beyond the reach of me.
Well, before they used to be
really, really expensive.
Like, if you wanted like
150 gigabytes
of hard drive a few years ago that would cost you
a couple thousand bucks.
I have a 400 megabytes because you drive.
400 megabytes.
Yeah.
Well, at least you can get a few files really fast from it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I don't know.
It's ancient.
Oh, well. So is the monitor. Do we still use it?
Is Matt still alive?
I'm here.
I'm not saying anything because I don't know what you guys
are talking about.
I paint and cruise on forums.
Just letting you guys talk about the hardware.
What would you like to talk about, Matt?
We've got like, we can talk about for eight more minutes.
I don't know anything, man.
What is it?
Critique some of the work on CGCost.
That's a very good idea.
What was that?
Critique some of the work.
Okay.
I have not been to that forum in a long time.
You're not meant to admit to that.
Yeah, I've been dizzy.
I almost failed my first semester because the teacher hates
me.
But I passed.
Okay, so I'm going to the forums right now.
Work in progress.
Yeah.
I need faster internet.
Okay, there's a Panzer V tank.
Yeah, I'm looking at that now.
It's pretty brutal.
I don't know.
Those textures look like they resemble a bad dodge tool.
We only accept honest criticism here.
We only give honest criticism.
Okay.
That's all right.
The shadows are a bit dark, though.
It's very square.
The Panzer was by a square tank.
I'm defending myself here.
I'm sorry.
Yeah, feel free.
I don't know.
It doesn't look real.
I can't place it right.
There's not enough edges.
Yeah, that's the thing.
I had proper photo reference,
and there's, like, nothing on this tank.
like I wanted it like a straight
fat cube model and there aren't like tons
of hooks or whatever you'd find on
a modern time. Maybe
it needs a proper environment or better
shaders or I don't know shouldn't
metal be shiny or something?
Well I don't know I couldn't figure out whether I was going
to
make it metal or just painted
grey or. I'm pretty sure tanks are made
out of metal.
Oh there was a
oh you have it in a scene. Oh no don't look
at that. I think you need to work
on the lighting.
Let's probably bring it down.
Yeah, I wanted to make it
look like a dull day,
but it just looks washed out.
Well, the next thing,
oh, there's a color project
by Archer.
I had to cancel this project
because the teacher didn't like it
and I'm not going to waste my time.
Probably finish it some other time,
but yeah.
Well, that's what's right though.
Yeah, I actually did like
19 of the panels
and I had to stop
to change my project
and not sleep for four days to finish a new project.
Why did your teacher not like that?
Because she's a horrible, horrible lady.
You know, she told this Russian girl
she went to show her work to the teacher
and the teacher said,
you're not honest, you're not sincere.
How much did you pay to get this thing made?
And the Russian girl spent all her time making that
and the teacher said she didn't make it.
Horrible teacher.
Nobody likes her.
Well, I think you've got good style there.
Thanks.
that ZBrush
well ZBrush is for
the little monster
ah
there's a guy that's
making a
Mitsubishi Lancer
it's coming along
pretty good
Magic Monkey
yeah it looks
really good
oh wait he finished
this on DeviantArt
oh god I hate
DeviantArt
oh
I have been banned
a bunch of times
from DeviantArt
I have several
fake accounts
I've been banned
for forums
I'm a pretty bad
person on the forums
I don't like the emo kits
while that's loading let's look at something else
hey Matt
the car
the car the one that he submitted
to DeviantArt it's not rendered very well
it's just
very plastic
it looks like he used a gradient overlay on it
something looks wrong
well the top half of it
just doesn't go right with the bottom half
I mean it's a great model and everything
maybe he rushed it or something
to that. There's something
weird about it.
And the rooms look plastic also.
You could have spent more time with Miranda.
You might have been going for that style though.
It's hard to tell.
Yeah, I know. Why would you?
It looks a bit too... It looks hand-drawn.
I think it's...
Not really. It's the shader he used.
It's too plasticky.
It's like his airbrush.
Does that make sense?
Am I right?
And the shadow is a bit strange under the wheels.
yeah anyways let's move on there's a self-portrait i hate
to me is somebody feeling a bit emo today
yeah and that was the joke because everyone thought i was
oh has it got the whole WIP in
here it hasn't got the finished picture no but you're going
for like final fantasy or something
here that's what my hair is like mate so you look like you
're from final fantasy right i'm gonna
send you a link.
I'll find one.
I bet you the chicks
do that.
Tell her,
tell the chicks,
hey,
they use me as reference
for Final Fantasy.
Yeah.
There's some...
The chicks would be like,
what's that?
Actually,
chicks dig Final Fantasy 10.
That's what I need to do.
Meet a girl
that's into that stuff.
Hey,
ladies.
Hey,
ladies.
Actually,
it's really hard to find
because they're very shy.
I need a girl
that gets turned on
by Ram.
Sounds better.
did you get the lady baby i got a one gig one gig that was
our discussion have a 1.5
did you not see the screenshot on cg talk of the chat oh
yeah the hard drive hey look um the merc
mercava tank looks pretty good simon you should take some
pointers from that
what's that gadgets the Merkava tank in the the WIPs war
looks pretty good now
It's rendered well also.
But it's not textured.
But it looks good.
Yeah, it's coming along good.
Okay, there's an Apache.
I finally get that.
Yeah, that's really detailed, isn't it?
That's pretty good.
We've moved on to the Apache.
It's...
It looks alright.
It's good, but there's a lot of excess polygons there and
stuff.
Yeah.
A bit overkill.
Not 100% on the shiny kind of shader.
I'm not...
Yeah, the first image looks alright, but the second image,
it's too much.
It's overkill.
It's, like, glossy.
Yeah, I don't think the Apaches are that glossy.
You could done with a matte finish on that, really.
Your tank could use a glossy matte.
Right.
They just came out of the car wash.
A nice wax job and a good buffer.
Oh, this is pretty good.
There's the Drifter by Gavin.
Yeah, Gavin did an interview for Outsource.com.
Oh, really?
About making these models.
you're gonna go read up about what is up to it and i'm
gonna check out the interviews
i should intervite and i should invite him to cg cast but
his model is pretty good
it'd be cool if you put some hair i don't think he's meant
to have her handle hair rocks yeah
but he's not gonna put hair because this version of xsi
doesn't support hair it's too bad but it's
yeah very cool it's worth checking out gavin's site
actually because um what is it give him a
plug www.gavimage.com
I think I checked
that it's probably
wrong but yeah it's
gonna be pull-ups
hey I was talking to
him like all night
last night on IRC
no he was in
Vancouver right
the guy in Vancouver
yeah I think he is
yeah Corona Games
okay yeah I was
talking to him a lot
last night you didn't
show me any of his
stuff though
why are you talking
to him on IRC man
you have to invite him
to chat and talk to
GK
and I didn't even
realize I was on this
chat until what an
hour ago oh but it was screaming hello to you and you you
didn't even know that no hello hello i i
know now no now hey yeah the the images for your bunker are
down man whoa whoa no my vodka ah
there's one image on that you're leeching off cg talk it's
still up looks kind of good in fact but
the textures on the top look
like they're textures just pasted onto
a polygon.
I really should have...
I don't know, because I had
bump maps on it.
It does have bump.
Displacement, man. Displacement.
It did have...
I can't remember, actually, now.
Hardcore displacement maps.
That's strange. It's actually not up
on my website now. I've been hacked.
I hacked you.
I didn't like the alt sources that come, so I hacked it and
took it down.
Saying that, I did actually get hacked the other day.
Really?
Yeah.
I don't understand why someone would do that,
considering that I'm basically offering a free service,
not asking anyone for money.
Maybe somebody who's asking for money for that service
wants to take you down.
I suppose.
Point is here.
So who's asking for money for that?
There are a few sites, but they're actually quite poor.
It's not even worth checking them out.
If you have to pay for a poor service, what's the print?
I don't know.
But they couldn't hack my code anyway because it's bullet
proof.
And you just invited a lot of people.
Website.
I have a challenge for the week.
Especially since Easter is coming up.
Some of you just thought, hey, I have something to do for
Easter.
Fantastic.
Thank you very much.
You heard it, everybody. Whoever hacks outsourcer.com gets
$10.
$10? It's a free outsourcer hat.
You heard the challenge is up. $10 if you hack outsourcer.
com.
$40 if you hack cgcast.com's forums.
No, that's too easy. The forums are not even...
What are the forums, anyway?
It's phpbb. That's easy.
I could hack that now.
Okay, I wouldn't do it.
You heard that, people.
You do not get anything if you hack CG
Cast.
But $10 for Outsourcer.
Because Simon said his code is bulletproof.
It's not. It's really not.
I'm a preschool when it comes to any type of coding.
I didn't even...
You'll make room.
You've heard it. It's easy to hack, so get at it.
I didn't code.
Oh, you're over there, man.
Are they hacking the house?
What?
Are they hacking your house or what?
No, my microphone fell down and smacked me in the head.
Oh, wait.
Hey, did you hear that somebody actually hacked 3DTotal.com
by actually going into their offices?
Oh, that was shocking.
They super glued all their backup disks
and snapped all their hard disks up and stuff.
Wasn't that two years ago now or something?
No, it was a year ago.
I wasn't so sure that happened such a year ago.
That's shocking.
It had to have been competitor.
That's what I speculate about.
I might get in trouble.
It could be CG Talk, 3D Palace, 3D Buzz, Machine Studios.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Who could it be?
Outsourcer.com.
Yeah, Outsourcer.com.
Who else is in England that does that site, that does a 3D
site?
I don't know.
I know 3D Palace is in England, but I don't want to point
any fingers.
I don't want to speculate.
I get in trouble and I get your CD.
Your CD is super glued.
They probably die, I think.
I better remove my address from the Whois.
I've had people phone me from that before.
Oh, really?
It's scary because they noticed that there was no phone
number on my site
for obvious reasons that I don't want calls during the day
because if an American calls me in their daytime, I'm
asleep.
Or something like that.
Speaking of that, there's something really weird.
On New Year's Eve, this random person kept sending me,
Happy New Year.
I was like, what?
And there was a long exchange of SMSs on my cell,
like, Happy New Year.
I don't know who you are, but Happy New Year.
Anyways, pretty weird.
And then that person called me 10 days after and just hung
up.
Weird.
You now have a cyber stalker.
No, but it was on cell revelations.
It was from a script.
It's probably an 80-year-old guy.
That scares me.
Anyways, yeah.
How's everyone doing?
Pretty fine.
I'm just sitting here, curbs and lips.
We've been recording like 47 minutes.
I think that's enough.
Yeah.
I will not be editing.
After editing, it'll be about three minutes.
No.
Next time we live here, you should plan out.
It was planned, but we don't actually get A-pluses in
planning at school.
We failed planning.
But yeah, since I have my holidays, I'll probably try and
record a bunch of episodes during that week.
And hopefully I just roll them on while I'm at school.
So, you know, I have something just in case I don't have a
big outage like last time.
This is horrible.
But yeah, so any final comments?
Any final plugs?
Yeah.
Check me out on CG Talk.
Crit my work.
I need them.
I don't go to school.
Don't you have a website, Matt?
I do, but it's over a year old.
It's pretty horrible.
What is it?
It is www.matellis.creativelines.ca.
CA?
CA.
What is CA?
Canada.
All right, Canada.
Go, Canada.
Smooth.
Oh, sorry.
I was thinking CA, CA, Cancun, Cameroon, but Canada.
Okay, any final words, Simon?
Yeah, I'm currently looking for work or internship
or perhaps sponsor me through university.
If you're interested in my work or anyone wants to send me
money,
basically, back to the level of it,
check out www.machinestudios.co.uk.
Yeah, we all want the same thing, the three of us.
Work, free money, sponsorship.
We're poor students.
I just applied for a job at a fist factory.
Don't let me work there.
Please, it's the factory.
I don't even want to know.
And if anyone's unemployed, like Matt, for example,
you might want to check out www.out-sourcer.com.
You know, go create a portfolio, upload your demo reels.
You know, see if you can find some work on that.
Good plan.
That's my plug.
Okay.
Should be fun.
Maybe I'll find a job on outsourcer.com.
Maybe not.
Maybe, Bill.
Maybe is the key word.
It's getting a couple of jobs every couple of days.
Yeah.
If you get in there quickly, you can get them.
Oh, cool.
But how do you know the jobs are not fake
or the members are lying?
I don't know.
There was one job which I allowed, I shouldn't have,
which is come work on our mass multiplayer online RPG game.
We'll pay you when we make a profit.
So what was the name?
I don't know.
Why?
Was it like
Lunix game
or something like that?
No, go on
also,
so come find out.
No, okay.
This guy added me
once I put my
email address
on the,
you know,
that MSN thread
that was going up
in the general section.
I got 60 people
at me.
Yeah,
I had a lot
to do.
Nobody added me
a messenger.
If you want to
add me a messenger,
it's archerx15
at hotmail.com.
I got the new
messenger thingy,
messenger 8,
so I can have
like 600 people.
Oh, the beta version? Yeah.
The bellated version. I didn't like that.
Yeah, it grows
on you. At first, it's still a bit
slow and stuff, but it's really nice.
It varies in your RAM to about
200 megs. Oh, actually,
let me see. I'll control the lead.
Messenger is
50. One.
Skype is 26.
Yeah, but you're having two real-time conference
calls aren't you and recording at the same time well the
recording is on the other computer
you have to love virtual desktops let's see let's see what
any way to do it yes yes yes so yeah um
add me a messenger if you want archer x15 at hotmail.com
but you have to be cool yes no creepy
people you added me man is not that creepy he's special i'm
just misunderstood
Special.
Special.
Anyways, all right, so that's it.
Say bye-bye, everybody.
Bye-bye, everybody.
See you later.
And that's a wrap.
