Welcome everybody to another episode of CGCast.
Today's video review, well actually today I'm going to be
reviewing 6 of the 3D Total Total Texture CDs.
And I'll try to make it as interesting as I can.
And also, at the end of the show, I'll give you the
information for a contest that will give you the chance to
win 1 of 2 Total Texture CDs.
So there can be 2 winners and I'll give you the information
.
next week or the next episode that I review the others
there'll be another chance to win
another total texture cd so hang around for that okay
 generally the total texture cds
they're um pretty good some they vary a lot there's a lot
of style changes between all of them
but the problem is that interface interface is very very
very very so when you run it off the cd
and they recommend that you copy it to your hard drive
which i don't think is fun they should have
just made like a an installer or something but i don't care
i don't really care for the interface
i would just like rather skip it there and it would just
rather you know copy paste all the
textures to to the hard drive you can do that but the
textures are not very organized on this disc
so once you copy paste the textures to your hard drive you
 have to skim through and
delete what you don't need because sometimes they give you
 lower resolution versions of the
textures and that's pretty redundant i can very easily
myself resize the textures so that was
just like a waste of time. I think it's time for me to
 review the first disc.
First disc is normal general textures. It's the first one
 they did. They actually
did a revision of the disc so it's a newer version, newer
 discs and everything
and it's actually a bit more pro since it has like a silver
 background. Real
discs have the back PlayStation style thing which I think
 is pretty cool. And they've
They changed up the interface in the new Viscs a bit and
added more stuff like normal maps
 and stuff to it.
It includes bricks, cloths and fabrics, ground, metals, isl
anias, paving, stone, tiles, wood,
dirt masks, overlays, shadow maps, skies, and panoramics.
Most of these maps come with normal color map, the bump map
, specular map, a mask, and
a normal map which I think is pretty cool.
Normal maps are new to the revised versions because I doubt
the old ones had normal maps
because normal maps are kind of a new thing.
This list is pretty cool, it has a good mix of things.
The interface is just deadly slow if you run it off the CD,
you just have to copy it off
hard drive if you want the interface interface not so bad
 as you know where
the textures are since they're not very organized on the
 disk which I think is
not cool it should be organized each texture like the
 bricks should be in a
bricks folder class of fabric should be in a class of
 fabrics folder the ground
should be in a ground folder and the most of the the
 interface images should
 be separated from the textures.
If it was like way just copy paste, bam and done but since
it's not you have to organize
themself and delete the unwanted stuff.
 What else?
 That's about it.
This one has some cool panoramics.
It also has a gallery, shows some work from other people
what they have done but it's
It's also the same on the galleries, the same exact on CDs
 2 and 3 also.
So that's the gallery in one disc, you see, you've seen
 them on all three.
And on the gallery, if you click then there's a link to go
to the 3D Total site to see the
 tutorial on it.
I think it would have been better if they had put the
tutorial files on the disc since
it's basically a DVD and there's no space issues.
 But whatever.
If you want to check it out on the train while you're going
somewhere far away and you don't
have internet access on the train, you don't have that to
keep you calm for me, but no.
But there's three tutorials on the disc, that's applying
 mixed maps, overlays, normal maps,
applying overlay maps, and finding a suitable solution.
And the last one is altering the overlay maps to suit the
texture, so that can keep you
 busy for a while.
It's not so bad but the only thing is just relic relic rel
ic.
This is disc 2 which is ancient stress which is a bit more
 specific.
The other one the first disc was a bit of everything but
 this has been more specified.
Also been revised so you have the color maps, the bot maps,
the normal maps, and the specularity
maps like the disc 1 but the older version, the first
 version from 2001 probably doesn't
 haven't i doubt it i'll check i haven't checked i don't
remember anyways this disc has bricks
metals miscellaneous paint cluster stone wall wood dirt
masks shadow maps sky and a few reference
photos of buildings and environments and interesting stuff
like that so it'd be good
like if you're into architectural stuff you have all the
bricks and the paints and plaster you want
wood walls and stuff like that as i said this has a gallery
also that's the same one as the cd1
and there are no tutorials on this one and as usual the
 interface is really stose
so if they would fix those things for like future revisions
 or whatever
It can be gold and light.
You can make it easy just to copy paste all the textures
 and have them pre-organized for
 you.
That would just be like awesome.
Okay well this is disk 3 which is bases and layers.
It's like the other disks, it's architectural based also.
Searching into architecture you will love these first 3
 disks.
The cool thing about this disk is that the textures are
 divided by color.
So you have the blues, the browns, the greens, the grays,
 the reds, the yellows.
And then you have the normals, because only 10 textures in
 this disc have normals, because
according to the editors of this disc, they say only those
 10 textures would need normals,
because the bump maps of the others would cover everything.
Now to the normal maps, you have the dirt maps, the masts,
 the skies, and the panoramic
 skies.
The panoramic sky is a bit cool, and I love those, but that
's just me.
um it's about it okay this four this one is a bit special
it takes a turn from the others because
the other ones were mostly architectural base but this one
is humans and creatures and this is kind
of my type because i'm making characters so in this list
you have creep now you have eyes for
these are creatures it's divided in creatures and humans so
for creatures you have eyes fur
miscellaneous scale skin body and skin facial then you have
human and human you have eyes
hair uh body facial skin which is abnormal skin old skin
tattoo skin young and skin reference
you um they have some reference photos from 3d.sk so that
 could be interesting
if you need that but it's mostly reference for making
 textures not modeling
 also they have
in this disc an eye maker
 so you can
 customize eyes and everything
 it's a PSD file
you can change color of eyes and stuff like that
and I think that's really cool, saves a lot of time
searching for eyes on the internet
and you can get exactly the eye
you want with the eye maker
 what else
 it's also
there's some hidden textures on this disc
so if you explore the disc
 you can find some surprises
so that's pretty cool if you buy it and yeah check it out
so now we have disc five which is
dirt and graffiti this is has not been revised so it's um
it's the way it was from 2001 the
menu is the old menu they had from before and etc and this
this there's a lot of masks and
dirt textures which are you can make yourself but this just
has a lot of variety and it's really
cool i think it's one of the cool queer discs they have it
's mostly back and white uh back and
white maps and they they're divided into into non-tiling
and non-tiling they have light which
is just a few things and then medium which is more things
going on the image and then they have heavy
and it's a lot of stuff going on it's great making masks
and dirt and stuff like that great for the
spacements also bulb mapping and stuff and have fun you can
use it for more than just texture work
when they have horizontal tiling and that they also have
light medium and heavy then they have
full tiling which you can tell to your little heart's
content they also have that divided in
light medium and heavy and then they have graffiti you have
 the net to
alter job the graffiti tips which are spiders an alpha map
 so it's easy to
implement them into a scene or whatever you're doing and
 they also have a
graffiti viewer we can see how the graffiti looks the wall
 behind them and
so back and that's really cool and rounds of them for doing
 that no so they
have a few tutorials so it's pretty cool this um it's an
old version so you have the option of two
two resolutions for the textures which i think is a bit
 dumb but whatever
now on the final disc this is disc six um it's clean
textures so we're going back to the
architectural style stuff so this is mostly geared towards
indoor architecture so if you're into that
that'll be great for you there's a lot of it's also an old
disc from before the revision so it
has the old interface and old style from before this has
bricks part one bricks part two bricks
part three carpets fabrics part one for fabrics part two
metal stone floor tiles roof tiles wall
tiles wallpapers wood part one wood part two worktops as
soon as part one as soon as part two
 with shadow maps.
 It also has tutorials.
It has a few of the same tutorials
from the graffiti and dirt map disc.
And it also has new ones,
so that'd be interesting to check out.
 Yeah.
Well, I hope you enjoyed the show.
So, as I was saying about the contest,
so I'll be giving away disc 1 and 2,
 but the old versions,
I'll keep the newer revised versions for myself, but you
 can win them for free.
Two people have a chance of winning.
All you have to do is send me an email to bearcher at cg
cast.com
saying why you like CG and what got you into CG.
And whoever gives the best response gets a disc.
The first person gets to choose which disc they want,
and whoever comes second gets the other remaining disc.
and I shall read the answers on his show.
So, good luck and I hope we get some responses.
If not, let's give them away to somebody else who wants
 them.
Alright, take care and stay around for the next episode
where I will review the remaining discs,
which quite a few of them.
 So, peace and good night.
